Anniversary
August 18, 2006 on 6:22 pm | In Hayden and Laura | No CommentsWe’ve got two years under our belt! It is hard to believe, but Laura and I have now been married for two years. It seems like just yesterday, but we’ve got the memories to prove otherwise. So much has happened over the last two years. Between work, church, social lives…it really is crazy how much has gone on.
So, Bud is doing well. Laura’s about 3 and 1/2 months pregnant now. Bud was about the size of a jumbo shrimp last week, but he/she has grown an inch in the past seven days. We’re going to get to find out whether it is a boy or a girl in 2 weeks! I can’t wait. I’ve been working on the crib a little. I’ve gotten the front gate done. It actually didn’t take too long. About a day and a half or so. It was really easy thanks to my new mortiser! Building stuff is so much fun when you get to buy more tools. I’ve also milled up the legs. The sides and back should take longer, but it won’t be too bad. I just have to find the time to get it done. With our weekends filled up with football, there isn’t much time. I won’t get into football right now. All it does is make me mad. Croom has proven that for ever action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Action: We have a football team that make good grades, stay out of trouble and are nice to one another. Equal and opposite reaction: We have a football team that stinks at football. Okay, I said I was not getting into it.
I did the MS 150 this weekend. It is a 150 mile bike ride for Multiple Sclerosis. It was 75 miles on backroads from Graceland to Tunica on Saturday and back to Graceland on Sunday. We stayed at the Gold Strike Casino on Saturday night. Laura came down and we managed to throw away a little money. We did get a free meal out of the deal at least.
Shep and I also did the Tour de Wolf triathlon two weeks ago. It was a lot of fun. My goal was to finish in under an hour. I was unsuccessful thanks to getting kicked in the face by some dude at the beginning of the swim. I swallowed a bit of water and it made me sick for most of the race. If you’ve ever seen patriot lake at Shelby Farms, you’d know why I was sick. Lets just say there are LOTS and LOTS of geese around there. Not the cleanest lake.
I was expecting to complete the swim in 4 or 5 minutes. It took about 8 and 1/2. The bike was still good even though I felt sick and had to coast a little. I did the 5 mile mountain bike in about 24 minutes. By the time I started the run though, the sickness kicked in. I had to walk/jog the first half mile or so. I ended up finishing in 1:01:12. Had I done it in less than an hour like my goal, I’d have gotten 3rd in my age group. I had to settle for 4th.
So tomorrow’s my birthday, but I had a little surprise on Friday. My fantastic wife planned a surprise party for me. I thought it was a party for Shep and Steve since they are going to Holland for 2 weeks. I didn’t want to stay too late because I still had to pack and had to be at Graceland at 6 for the MS 150. When we got to the Fox and the Hound around 8, there were about 15 of our friends there. Balloons, banners, the whole 9 yards. It made me feel SO great to see everyone. Nothing like that has ever been done for me before. It was a really special time. After hanging out there for a while we went bowling. It may sound like no big deal to bowl, but I really enjoy it. I’m married to the greatest girl ever. And have been for two years now! I’ve got some of the best friends anyone could ask for, too.
