Parents Coming Up
November 30, 2006 on 5:40 pm | In Hayden and Laura | No CommentsThis weekend should be pretty cool. My Mom and Dad are coming up so that my Dad and I can go deer hunting. I bought a trip at an auction for the American Liver Foundation a few months ago. We were at an ALF golfing fundraiser and my bidding disorder got the best of me. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever been to an auction (either regular style or silent) and come out without winning anything.
Anyway, I bid on this deer hunt and won. After I won, I thought that I should have never bid. After all, the hunt is in Tennessee. I don’t have a Tennessee License since I do all my hunting in Mississippi. I ended up calling the guy who donated the hunt and he told me to bring along my Dad. Dad sounded interested so here we are. We’re going on a hunt in Tennessee.
The guy that is taking us is named Jim. He is one of the nicest people I think I’ve spoken with in a while. He is much more concerned about us having a good time than he is with the amount of time and effort he’ll have to put into the hunt. He’s offered to move dates multiple times and even offered to take us back out another weekend. He’s a really stand up guy, from what I’ve heard on the phone. I can’t wait to meet him in person.
Laura is continuing to get thicker! We’ve got to get some new pictures soon. She is visibly growing every couple of days. It is so exciting. The other night I woke up in the middle of the night. I looked over at her and saw her belly jumping. I ended up waking her up by putting my hand on her stomach to feel Haley. For some reason around 4 a.m. she starts kicking like mad. I guess I’d better start setting an alarm to get used to waking up at 4. Apparently Haley likes it.
I finished up the crib this weekend. I was able to go from boards to crib (which you see in the pictures above) in about 4 months. Not bad considering that it was during football season. I’m guessing I probably have about 80 hours in it. Maybe a little more. Below are pictures of how it started and how it ended up. More pictures of the crib and the pregnancy can be seen in the photo gallery. We’ll be getting to see Haley in 4D on Tuesday so stay tuned for more pictures soon! Hopefully I’ll have tales of the biggest deer you’ve ever seen!
Great Weekend
November 20, 2006 on 1:24 pm | In Hayden and Laura | No CommentsWell, another weekend has come and gone. We had a pretty good time this weekend. On Friday night, we went to watch Happy Feet. It was not as good as we were hoping for, but not bad. We were 2 of the oldest people in the theater. At least the oldest that were unaccompanied by parents or grandparents. The best part was, we went to the 7:25 showing so we were able to be home by 9:30. We made a frozen pizza for dinner and were in bed by 10:30. Yep, we’re getting old, I guess.
Saturday morning we were up early to head down to Starkville. We met my parents at 11 at Harvey’s for lunch. Lunch was okay, but nothing spectacular. I remember when I was in college I used to LOVE Harvey’s. For some reason it doesn’t seem as good as it used to. Maybe its because when I was in college, I only had McDonald’s and Taco Bell to compare with Harvey’s. Still, it was an enjoyable lunch. Especially because of the company. Maybe next time we’re in Starkville we can eat at the Veranda. That’s where Laura and I had our first date.
Mississippi State lost the game. I know it is hard to believe that Arkansas beat us, but it is true. In all seriousness, we did actually put up a pretty good fight. We ended up getting home around 8 on Saturday night. We went to Kroger, watched about 30 minutes of Capote, and went to bed. We laughed at ourselves when we got in bed and looked over at the clock. It wasn’t even 10 yet! I guess driving half the day will wear you out.
Sunday afternoon I got to work some more on the crib. I put almost all of the hardware on and put it together. I bought some cam bolts to put the back on with. They seem to work pretty well, but leave a slight gap in places. Nothing very noticeable (well, by anyone except for me). The crib looks pretty good though. I need to take it back apart, spray the clear polyurethane on it and reassemble. I think I may actually be done with it before we get the bedding back from the lady that is making it. I’m really ready to get this done. It has been fun working on it and I’m pretty pleased with the results.
Crib Status
November 16, 2006 on 3:24 pm | In Hayden and Laura | No CommentsLadies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, the crib is getting close. I have finally gotten it the color we want. It has been a complete act of congress to get it done. Laura would have been okay with it being a little browner. Which means, I could have used walnut instead of maple for it and saved about 56 steps of finishing. I had to start with a wood dye, then use many coats of polyurethane that were tinted. Now we finally have the color we want. All that is left to do is to put on the hardware, test the fit, take the hardware back off, finish with gloss clear polyurethane and we’re done. We have a game this weekend, so we’ll be going to Starkville. Maybe I can get it finished next weekend.
Pictures can be seen on the picture page. Outside of that, everything seems to be going well. Laura is starting to show a lot and she’s spent some time at Mimi Maternity getting some really cool clothes…that fit! I’ve been plugging along at work and trying to force myself to do a little exercise. We’ve both been pretty good lately working out. I’m especially proud of Laura. It helps her sugar
numbers a LOT when sh e exercises. We have been exercising together some after work at Germantown Center. Other days, I run in the morning and she works out at Germantown right after school. It has been difficult coming to the realization that I’m not 19 anymore. My body is starting to get a little sluggish. I guess I’d better get used to it!
