Busy Week
October 2, 2009 on 8:39 pm | In Haley, Hayden and Laura | No CommentsThe Honduras trip was cancelled as I mentioned in my previous post. I still took one day (Thursday) off. Initially, we didn’t have anything planned for Thursday. Wednesday was a big day for us. Laura and the kiddos went to dinner for Whitney Tabb’s birthday. Not sure exactly where they ate, but I can assume it was some place Mexican based on the doggie bag in the fridge. I spent Wednesday evening at a Memphis Maroon Club dinner with MSU’s head basketball coach, Rick Stansbury. I love to hear him talk about the players. He has a way of making everything so personal. Whenever he’s done, you really feel like you know the players.
When I got home, we came up with a game plan for Thursday. Thursday started with me taking a pretty long walk and coming in to the smell of pancakes coming off the griddle. Haley had Mickey Mouse pancakes – custom made by chef Laura.
Once we got done with breakfast, we packed up and headed off for the zoo. I don’t think I’ve ever taken off and just stayed at home, so I’ve obviously never been to the zoo at a time like Thursday morning. Let me say, there is quite a difference between going to the zoo on a Thursday morning and going on a weekend. Outside of the people that worked at the zoo and a group of senior citizens, I think we were the only people there. It was nice to let Haley run around without worrying about her getting knocked over by the crowds. We had a slight meltdown when we left the elephants – Haley really wanted to stay. But, outside of that, an awesome zoo trip. The weather was fantastic!
After the zoo, we stopped and bought a pallet of fieldstone. Laura and I have been wanting to do a flower bed in our front yard that has fieldstone around it. We’re finally getting to it! When the kids took naps, Laura and I tag teamed the front yard. She got the trimmers and worked on the hedges. I laid rocks around the new bed. The unfortunate thing is, my wedding ring is missing. I don’t recall taking it off (and we turned the house upside down). I’m thinking at this point either it slipped off when I was pulling off my thick leather gloves or I did remove it before I went out and Haley has put it somewhere. Going to have to see if I can find someone with a metal detector so I can walk around the front yard I guess. I think I’m more upset about it than Laura.
We had a nice family dinner that included some awesome sweet potato fries. We followed up dinner with chocolate crème brulee and an episode of the Office. Bedtime came none too early. With the busy day we’d had, we were super-tired.
